Stena Germanica Methanol Conversion
Overview
Project Summary
Stena Line converted its 240 m RoPax ferry, the Stena Germanica, to run on methanol as its primary fuel (with diesel backup) in 2015. The ferry was retrofitted with a fuel-flexible Wartsila 4-stroke engine. In addition to vessel conversion, installation of a bunker vessel and storage tanks at the Ports of Gothenburg and Kiel was conducted as part of this project. The project was supported by funding from the European Union's Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T)
