Overview

Project Summary

The SUNY New Paltz microgrid project consists of analysis, design, and implementation of a microgrid using solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) on the State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz campus. Distribution, cost, and feasibility analytics were conducted to determine proper scale, arrangement, and operation of the PV arrays and BESS being integrated into the distribution feeder.

With initial analytics complete, a 100 kWdc solar PV system with ES now provides off-grid operation to the campus gym during utility interruption so that the campus’s critical operations remain intact. Concurrently, five PV arrays and smart inverters are providing a total of 117 kWdc to the campus library.
