Overview

Project Summary

As one of the first and (at the time) “only utility-scale solar installation in the Entergy system”, the Entergy New Orleans Inc. (ENOI) solar Solar power Power plant Plant (NOSPP) with battery storage pilot project was designed to inform future resource planning. Unlike other projects that will often append storage capabilities to existing PV/renewable generation, ENOI Entergy New Orleans, Inc. (ENOI) designed this project to incorporate both PV and storage from the beginning with the following goals in mind:

  • Compensate for PV intermittency
  • Shift PV production to better match load
  • Manage line loading and power quality on the local distribution network
  • Benchmark performance and maintenance & operations costs to evaluate the technical and market potential of an integrated PV + BESS system

Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts were signed in July 2015 and the plant began producing power in June of 2016.
