The purpose of this demonstration project was to improve the integration process of distribution-level energy storage technology through rigorous front-end planning, enable efficient installation of storage systems, and promote the development of analytical tools producing robust and cost-effective storage controls.

The key research objectives can be characterized as follows:

• explore required control and communication architectures allowing for optimized storage operation from a back-office control platform, aimed at controlling a fleet of distributed resources
• collect data to determine cost effectiveness & operational characteristics of the installed system
