Overview

Project Summary

Schoonschip is a floating residential area in the Johan van Hasselt Canal, a side canal of the IJ in Buiksloterham, Amsterdam-Noord. Since the beginning of 2020, 46 households on 30 arks have been living in this ecologically and socially sustainable neighborhood. Electricity is generated by photovoltaic solar panels and every home a large battery in which temporary surpluses can be stored. All homes are connected to a shared smart grid that enables the exchange of electricity in a smart way. Moreover, the share of electric cars, electric cargo bikes and e-bikes is active at a local level. Sustainable materials and sustainable installations have been used for the realization of this project.
