Project Summary
Originating as an EPRI-led battery energy storage demonstration project, the system consists of a 1 MW, 2 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), co-sited with a 1 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant; both are now operated by Southern Company. The objective has been to analyze the potential for increased renewable energy integration, peak load reductions, and voltage support. The formal project launch occurred in May 2014, and the BESS unit was fully operational by September of 2015.
