Overview

Project Summary

Xcel Energy is demonstrating energy storage systems at two locations in hopes of better understanding how storage can help increase PV hosting capacity. Xcel is also studying the impact of storage on voltage regulation, system peak demand, energy arbitrage, and other grid effects.

For this project, EPRI developed four total use cases at the two sites. The purpose was to provide a valuable tool for end-users to articulate and capture their needs in a manner that is both architecturally significant, as well as, comprehensive. Once use cases are in place, identification of the functional requirements can be developed in a time and cost-efficient manner, with reduced risk. The use cases can also be used to drive system acceptance testing, training materials, and ongoing process improvement.
