Reading Community Energy Society owns and operates 22 solar PV systems on roofs in and around Reading, with a combined capacity of 529 kWp energy – enough to power the equivalent of 154 homes each year and saves 113,162 kg of CO_2. These installations are funded through community share offers, enabling individuals and local organisations to support and benefit from the scheme. Since 2016, community have raised almost £500,000 – demonstrating the support and commitment for delivering renewable energy locally. In the future, Reading Community Energy intends to expand to consider a wider range of technologies and solutions to continue to reduce Reading’s carbon footprint even further.
